Industrial Action
As you are no doubt aware, the teacher’s unions are engaged in negotiations over pay and conditions with the Ministry of Education. As such, a plan of industrial action has been endorsed by the membership that, should no settlement be reached beforehand, there will be an ongoing impact into Term 2. A second strike day has been scheduled for Wednesday 29th March. As so many of our staff are members of PPTA, we will be unable to open for instruction to all year levels that day. The term 2 actions to be aware of – a further strike in week 3 (week of the 8th of March), rostering home – one year group is sent home on certain days, the current schedule is:

Week 2Thursday 4 May Year 11
Week 3Tuesday 9 May Year 12Thursday 11 May Year 13
Week 4Tuesday 16 May Year 9Wednesday 17 May Year 10
Week 5Thursday 25 May Year 11
Week 6Tuesday 30 May Year 13Thursday 1 June Year 12
Week 7Tuesday 6 June Year 10Thursday 8 June Year 9

Hopefully, the two parties can come to an agreement before it gets into Term 2!

NCEA Information Evening
Our parent information NCEA evening will need to change to Wednesday 5th April, 6.30 pm in the Library. It is a rundown of the new NCEA Changes that come into effect in 2024. We highly recommend parents of Yr 7-10 students attend. The session will be approx. half an hour with the information we know to date and what the changes look like so far. Light refreshments will be supplied.

Student Fundraised Money 2022-2023
Our school community has raised a considerable amount of money from mufti days for the following initiatives: Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Fund – $460; Daffodil Day (Cancer Society) – $195; Red Nose Day (Cure Kids) – $130; Pink Shirt Day (Mental Health Society) – $170 and Red Cross NZ Disaster Fund (Cyclone Gabrielle) – $457. Totalling – $ 1,412!! All initiatives are decided by the Student Council with input from the general student population. Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this fantastic amount of money.

Uniform
A reminder hoodies are NOT part of our uniform and students who wear them to school will be asked to remove them in exchange for a jacket. The hoodie will be held in the school office and returned at the end of the day. On another note, we are exploring a supply of grey long chino pants and fitted navy girls’ pants. We currently have samples of the girl’s pants for students to try and can order them, the boy’s samples are on the way.
