Pānui 8

Last week we farewelled John Tait and it was impressive to see the whole school involved in a Haka to say goodbye.  Also great to see so many parents at Cross Country last week and we hope those who can pop down to see the Queen Charlotte Exchange next Wednesday (14th June).

INDUSTRIAL ACTION

PPTA members have rejected the last contract offer and industrial action over the next three weeks intensifies. This includes a 1-day ban on extracurricular activities on Wednesday 21st June, more rostering home and a continuation of the relief ban. Below is the confirmed rostering home information. As the majority of our staff are PPTA members we have no option on those days but to have the students rostered home as there will be no one to teach them. There will also be a Paid Union meeting yet to be confirmed.

SPORTS HONOURS BOARD

Some of you may have seen on Facebook but we are putting a Sports Honours board up in the gym and would love to hear from any ex-students who have represented New Zealand, what sport and what year. Information can be sent to the school office. SCHOOL OFFICE

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING AT KHS?

Lots of fun goings on in the last two weeks! Ms Fiss’s Fisheries (try saying that fast!) class had a great trip out on SeaMist charters as part of their unit.

The CCHS winter tournament was on the 1st of June and our teams did extremely well.  Our basketballers won everything and our netballers almost copied them.  Students represented the school well and displayed great values.

Cross Country/Colour run turned out to have the perfect afternoon with cool but clear weather.  No records were broken this year but some strong performances with Hiratū taking out house points honours.

Harper Boyce had her first tournament for the  NC U16 Development Netball team with her team getting to the finals – awesome efforts!

We had three students (that we know of there may be more!) Sonny Lyons, Sacha Surgenor and Alice King all compete in the Cold Water Classic Surf competition over King’s birthday (and a couple of staff too!).  They all did well although maybe not to their high expectations but made finals – great job!

On June 2nd the school farewelled Mr John Tait, our principal of 7 years. To acknowledge & show appreciation for Mr Tait’s time at Kaikōura High, our students performed a Haka and presented him with a gift. We wish Mr Tait all the very best for his future endeavours.
